We have 10" of heavy snow and more coming. Well, it is late October, so we are due. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, high 60 to low 70's the rest of the week. But meanwhile we have to keep warm, so here is a drink that everyone will enjoy. You can serve it during the Holidays, great for parties. Stay warm! This is just the beginning!
Chocolat Blanc a la Menthe:
12 cups of whole milk
9 ounces good-quality white chocolate, chopped (I use Lindt)
1 cup crushed candy canes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon peppermint extract
1 1/2 cups peppermint schnapps (for the grown-ups)
2 cups heavy whipped cream, whipped with 2 Tablespoons of sugar
12 red-white-stripped candy canes
Nutmeg for garnish
In a large saucepan bring the milk to a simmer. Reduce heat to med-low. Add the chocolate, crushed candy canes, and salt. Whisk until smooth. Add schnapps (if using), peppermint extract. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, top with the whipped cream, add a candy cane stick. Sprinkle with the nutmeg. Drink hot.
Serves: 6-12
